The Influence of Physical Activity and Diet on Skeletal Muscle Inflammation and Function in Older Adults
Facilitated by Dr. Kyle Timmerman, a kinesiology professor at Miami University, the aim of this study was to determine the correlation between physical activity and skeletal muscle mass in the elderly, and the impact of diet. Specifically the roles of amino acids were examined, as well as other nutrient-body relations. Data was collected through nursing homes in Oxford, where participants underwent a mental competency test, physical activity level test, and record a three day diet log. Their anthropometric data was also noted, as well as any medications taken. My role in research included entering the diet logs into a nutrition database and analyzing their nutrient correlations.
